New Year projects!

The New Year is starting off a little bit slower and differently than I had planned (that’s how it always happens huh?) I had planned to use the first day of the year (and a day off from the day job) to start some new projects and list some items in the Shaded Lines Etsy store…… and then I got sick. Nothing bad—just a cold, but enough to keep me on the couch for most of the day.

Now, a couple of days into the year, I have started some new jewelry pieces (photos to come) and a set of coasters to show my appreciation for the Showtime tv show Dexter (partially done).

When complete, the splatters will be sandwiched between two clear, acrylic “slides” and have clear feet to go on the bottom at each corner 🙂

I can totally appreciate Jackson Pollock’s work now…..

In art school, we studied Mondrian and Pollock together….and I always leaned toward the Mondrian artworks for the appeal of the clean lines and bright colors. I think it was because I was always stumped on how he managed to keep everything so neat and didn’t color outside the lines ;P    …..but now that I’ve had a chance to throw some paint at these acrylic square coasters… well, I get why Pollock did it!

Which do you prefer, and why?

About shadedlinescreations

I have been interested in the arts for longer than I can remember. I can’t dance, I can’t sing….so that just left creating something tangible and aesthetically pleasing. Having a bachelor’s in graphic communications, I’ve worked as a graphic designer or creative director for the past 10 years. I have now decided to branch out and embrace 3D design…something in college I completely didn’t understand and hated going to the class! However, rather than covering chairs in crayons or fabricating statues out of cardboard, I have chosen to create items that can be used and treasured for years to come. Each tile, coaster or piece that you see in the gallery or on my etsy store has been customized, and can even feature your own personal images if you so desire. So look around, get some ideas and let me take them to the next level by actually making them for you!
